Pentax DA* 60-250 manual zoom issue

Hi Pentaxians,

Yesterday, I bought a DA*60-250 lens and instantly I loved the lens. I am going to test the picture quality and other things over the weekend. But, looking at the lens, I found an issue (!!). The manual/fine focus adjustment ring is turning continuously, while the zoom ring is working fine. What I am trying to say is, the fine focus ring is not stopping even after reaching infinite or minimum focusing distance, rotating continuously. It ticks at the end points, but doesn't stop. It is common with DA* lenses? I afraid, over a period the zoom becomes wooble and I may not able to find focus it. If you have any of the DA* lens or 60-250, can you please quickly confirm the behavior, I would like to return the lens at the earliest. Please check the link below. Thanks!!

Not seeing what is described in the post with my 60-250. Working as shown in the movie as well. Purchased back in January 2010.

It has become my lens of choice. Seems it is used more when just walking around on everyday photo walks.

The lens is solid and my only problem was the sdm motor died right at month 15 and had to send it off for repair. An expense I was not happy about.

On my da*300 my focus ring rotates continuously. I've had it 5 years and nothing is loose.

Really, your lenses also behave the same way? Then, are you comfortable in manually focusing the lens? I had a FA 100mm macro lens with same problem, but had a hell a problem manually focusing the lens, as it is rotating more than needed. Can you check the behavior if you have any other DA* lens for me, please. This is how DA lens behaves.

Thanks for confirming the behavior. I almost going to kick the guys, who sold me the lens. Just, your SDM is working fine with DA*300? I am planning it as my next purchase, may be over the year-end, Christmas season. The build quality of the DA* lens is next to nothing.

Hi ntrao, that is normal. My 60-250 does the same thing, so does my other DA* lenses.

The focus ring decouples when you go past mfd and just past infinity, that is normal on these lenses. It is odd at first but soon seems normal.

@K57XR and @UncleVanya, thank you very much for confirming. It is a quite expensive purchase for me and I am really shocked/disappointed at this behavior, being very new to me. All other DA lenses behave normally, to my knowledge, but not these DA* series, it seems. Again thanks!!

Honestly it is actually a superior method just feels odd at first.
One thing to point out. On the lenses that you showed that stop at each end the distance scale is on the same ring as the focus ring which means that the distance ring turns when the focus ring turns - there is no way the focus ring could freely spin in that case without showing the wrong focus distance. Granted there are other lenses without any focus distance indication but that's not relevant to the two examples you showed.

Working as designed. All da* lenses work that way.
