Pentax DA* 60-250mm f4 - do I have a duff copy?

Hi.

This is for any other owners of the Pentax DA* 60-250mm f4 lens: what is the length of the lens (without lens cap) when fully extended? (Mine seems to measure 225mm from mount to end of the lens.)

And perhaps they could also state whether their copy of the lens also seems to zoom only a very small amount when extended beyond 200mm? On my copy, until 200mm it's a fairly steady zoom, and then from 200-250mm it doesn't seem to reach much further at all.

Wondering if mine is a duff copy. Got it second hand for a very good price (and even if it is slightly faulty, still gives wonderful results: it did very well when I randomly came across some enduro racing recently: Gullwing Photography: Enduro racing at Masham)

Many thanks.

That is correct. Hardly any movement after 200mm. Also note that at close distances you will not get 250mm, that is only at infinity due to the way the lens works. Great lens, it gets a lot of use from me.

Seems about right.

That's normal. Because the movement is not linear doesn't mean it's broken.

Sure? Because it also seems that the amount of zoom between 200-250 is less than the equivalent between, say, 150-200. It's odd.

Still a lovely lens, but..

edit: And, I mean, the optical zoom, not the movement of the barrel.

Okay. Thanks jatrax. That puts my mind at ease if you also have the same thing.

It is a great lens. Useful for all kinds of things.

The field of view is not linear with the focal length. For instance, 1mm at 16mm makes a world of difference but it's almost invisible at 250mm.
