Problem with new lens, help.

Hello, i have just bought a lens for my K-r but there seems to be a problem

At first it worked fine, then after 5 photos when pressing any button it activates the shutter, pressing the shutter button it just continuely activates the shutter with out taking a photo & it also gets stuck open & the shitter keeps click with out pressing anything till i turn the camera off.

The lens is a Sigma UC 28-70mm F/3.5-4.5

Could it be damaged or not compatible with my K-r camera?

Thanks.

So it's controlling your toilet too?

In seriousness though I've heard of some older Sigma lenses not being fully compatible and you may have to tape the contacts as said.

Check the aperture actuator, the little block that slides up and down on a rail just inside the mount on the camera body. if it's stuck at the top of its travel, try to ease it down gently. Also, take a look at the aperture lever on the back of the lens - make sure it's straight and not noticeably bent outwards or inwards. I had exactly the same issue with my K-r and one lens. I traced it to a slightly bent aperture lever which was causing the actuator mechanism in the camera to stick. After unsticking the camera and bending the lever on the lens back straight the problem never recurred.

The aperture actuator & lever seem to be ok & move freely & smooth.

It works fine at first, focuses & takes good photos then starts having a mair, screen shuts down & the shutter clicks & the same as i stated above.

Does it happen with this lens only? If so, then I might guess the aperture lever on the lens is somewhat getting stuck or sitcky after a few shots and inadvertently "holding" the aperture mechanism on the camera, which will cause the K-r to go haywire. If it ouccurs on any or without a lens then It might be an issue with the camera's aperture mechanism itself. Have a look at this video if you haven't seen it:

One easy test you can do should it happen again with a lens mounted, look at the aperture blades on the front of the lens and see if they're actually stopping down per shutter actuation. If not then it's safe to assume it is aperture mechanism related (lens or camera). You can also try and operate the aperture lever on the "suspect" lens rapidly by hand and see if you get any stickiness or hesitation. Good Luck!

K57 it does seem to be that problem, i removed the lens & the lever is sitting in the wrong place, but is only activated with that lens, i have just fitted my sigma 12-24 DG & after 4 seconds the camera goes back to perfect working order, then refit the other lens & fault occurs again.

The problem still isnt fix, i have try every thing, i covered up the point which made the lens work like a manual lens.

But im now getting a new identical lens sent to me & im getting to keep the faulty lens for parts.

Update:

I returned the lens to the seller who sent me an identical lens, which was having the same issue, so i concluded the lens type isn't compatible with my K-r

So that was returned & swapped for a Pentax FA 28-80mm lens with power zoom which i have other issues
