Remote for Pentax Kr

I bought a cheap remote on Ebay and can't get it to work. Question: When you push the button on the remote, do you see the light? I don't, so I'm thinking I got a non working remote.

Normally you can't see the light.

But it could just be that the remote is incompatible or needs a battery- you get what you pay for.

the cheap remote I got has a plastic sleeve to prevent the battery from making contact when not in use.....blockage? or a bad battery.......sometimes I hafta to twist the remote a little to ensure the battery makes contact and then it usually works on the k-r and k-50......the only light is the blinking red one on the camera showing its in the remote mode

I had a cheap one like Aaron28. No end of problems. When it did work, it was very short range 2-3 metres at best. Very particular on angle to camera. Very short battery life, I think it was always on and consuming battery power even when not in use. It was not the sort of thing I used every day but it seemed whenever I needed, it the battery was flat. I tossed it out and got one of the Pentax waterproof ones 0-RC1. Not cheap, $A70-80 as far as I recall but a far superior and reliable product.

as I've said before, I am a huge fan of using smartphones with IR function as remotes if you have that option. If you have a phone with a camera, you can put the remote's IR blaster on the phone's camera and see if it is emitting. Due to the weak IR filter on the phone's camera, any IR emission from the remote should show up on screen as a faint purple flash. If you don't see it, it's probably not working.

that app defaults to pentax like a boss. The intervalometer feature is pretty awesome too since you can go longer than the 30 second max the camera has. Hope you can get your remote working, krkellum!

Believe it or not an old TV remote you might have lying around will also work. Just press the buttons until you get a result. The problem is the size. But the batteries last forever.

I have a nice wired remote but I seldom use it. I always have my phone with me and thus my remote.

If you have a K-r, I can imagine It does not have a connector for a wired remote.

I don't have the answer to that. I have never used the intervalometer function in the remote app, only the in camera function. It does support bulb exposures but I don't know about astrotracer. More information can be found in the Google Play Store page for the app.
