Pentax K7 continuous shooting

Hi
I Have had my K7 since 2010, it works very well, but for the life of me I can't work out how to take more than 4 shots continuously , I see in the specs it should do 15 raw before having to clear the buffer can anyone explain how I can get the 15 shots?
Thanks

Have you tried to use a different SD card?

The odds are that the answer lies in the kind of SD card you're using.

In the later years of exclusively RAW-shooting my old K-7, I used to write to a SanDisk 16GB SDHC UHS-I card at up to 45MB/s, and never ran into any limitations whatsoever, even if I can't think of an occasion where I really put those 15-shot-bursts to the test. Cards of that calibre should be readily affordable by now, and they should definitely give you more than the meagre 4 continuous shots you experienced.

Even on a basic card mine has just managed eleven raw , if I use Raw+ then it struggle to even seem continuous as it does if any of the 'correction' tools are on.

I have my K-7 for a while and I can do 5.2 fps with JPEG 12 Mp [**]. But this requires:
- the removal of all in-camera post-processing (eg highlight correct, lens distortion correction, high-ISO correction ...)
- a good quality SD card (class 10 or faster)
- JPEG 12 Mp [**] or less

With these settings, I can easily reach 40 to 60 shots at 5.2 fps without interuption.

Hope that the comment can help.

hcc is quite correct the issue seems to be the lens correction and other pp settings in camera. It is not the buffer capacity but the effective frame rate that is at question.

As well as the in camera processing, slow shutter speeds can eat into the frame rate. For example if shooting at 1/50 of a second for 10 frames 1/5 of a second is required just to expose the images. I can't recall the point where shutter speed starts to noticeably affect frame rate but I have encountered this during low light conditions. Paradoxically this can also serve to improve buffer performance.

A simple test on my k-7 just now, I found the following using fully manual mode. Jpeg 10M **** Lens corrections OFF

At 1/160th I achieved a nice quick frame rate of roughly 4-5 frames per second. I got to 15 shots before the buffer filled and the rate slowed down.
At 1/4 The frame rate slowed considerably from the start as expected but the camera kept plugging away for over 60 images at the slow rate. In the end I gave up as the buffer showed no signs of filling. The slower frame rate allows the buffer to clear and the camera keeps plugging away.

Turning on Lens correction, Distortion and Lat-Chromatic-ab Adj, I achieved 4 only frames before the camera stopped "dead" in its tracks. This happened at both shutter speeds of 1/4 and 1/160th of a second.
