New Miranda 24mm Manual Lens Won't Mount K-01

I've just received a great copy (like new!) of a Miranda 24mm 1:2.8 MC Macro lens. However it doesn't seem to want to mount easily and I don't want to use brute force after reading the "Ricoh pin" scare stories. I can get it on the mount but it won't click into the "lock position".

From what I can tell, it doesn't appear to have the Ricoh pin, but maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing.

According to the user reviews for this lens, a few mention the pin issue, but others not: Miranda 24mm F2.8 MC Macro Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

Anyhow, here are a few photos (attached) of the mount section of the lens for hopefully some trained eyes/experienced pentaxians to help me get taking some photos with this beauty!

On closer inspection the only "pin"-like parts on the rim of the mount are the little gold spring loaded contact points. There is one located in a position where the usual pentax lens does not have one.

However, this one like the others is spring loaded and therefore shouldn't pose a problem as I imagine it would just depress to allow the lens to mount in the usual way ?

Ok after more reading around, looks like it is definitely the "Ricoh pin" issue.

Here is a link to the mount photo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jycwgbl63of2gg1/DSC_0291.JPG?dl=0

The pin seems like it is around 10 o clock just above the screw head on the left hand side.

The aperture guard looks like it is in a position that could hit the SDM contacts.

If you remove the 3 small JIS screws on the black ring you might be able to remove it.

Ok I've solved the problem. Removed the bayonet mount from the lens (4 screws). then flipped it over and prized the metal arm (holding the pin in place) very slightly so the pin dropped to a flush level. Didn't have to remove the pin entirely in this case and the lens now mounts fine.

I found this video very useful:

Thanks for your help!

On first inspection this Miranda 24mm lens seems great by the way.

It has the "A" setting if you want to have auto aperture which is working great with the K-01 and slightly wider field of view plus macro feature is nice too.

Thanks damianc. Is that the same miranda 24mm lens because the mount looks identical ? If so how do you find it ?

It is the same Miranda 24mm! It used to be my favourite lens with film, but I've not used it so much with digital. I suspect my copy may not be quite as sharp as I'd like it, so consequently it hasn't had much use. I should really get out and use it again and see if I get that same buzz back!

Nice! Mine seems quite sharp when I hit the perfect focus which can be tricky especially on macro subjects (eg. flowers) when the wind is blowing!

I'd definitely give it another go you may find it's ok, i'll try and upload some test shots when I get the chance to compare with yours for sharpness.

We'll need to pick a similar subject!

actually I have never tried it on my K-3, maybe that's something to do this weekend!

Mine is fine. Has the pin, never caused a problem. Use it on the K-01. Lens is marked with a pka in front of the serial number. The standard ricoh pin is much bigger. It is a great lens. Compared it to the 20 Limited. For street I find it better. It misses the pixie dust of the limited.

Same for me, in fact it is a bit difficult to screw the lens on K-7 and K-3 (there is some friction) but on K100D the problem does not occur.
Mine is labelled PK-A too.

@UlrichSchiegg

I'm wondering if there are a few versions... mine is PK-A/R960XXXXX

Maybe the 'R' signifies Ricoh version or is yours the same (ie. "R" followed by 8 digit number ?
