K10d - after taking photo, all of screen flashes yellow.

My K10 has been sitting for a while as I upgraded to a K3.
Was going to give the K10 to mys son, so I took some test shots.
No matter what lens, setting, ISO, shutter speed etc, the playback of the shot is the entire screen flashing yellow.
Normally with an underexposed area, you'll see the flashing yellow, but not the entire screen.
I took off the lens, the reflex mirror is activating.
What am I missing?
Is this an easy fix?

It sounds like there could be something wrong with the camera. If you take a 1s exposure with no lens, is the image still black? Do you see the shutter opening?

Have you tried transferring the photos to your computer and checking them there? May provide more clues.

I imported the "photos", but they are just black. So no image is being captured 😞

I'm with Adam, sounds like a shutter problem. Does the shutter open in the sensor cleaning mode?

Battery is good, swapped SD card, all good. Shutter does open in the sensor cleaning mode.
I'm thinking it's the sensor... ack!
Think that might be expensive to replace?

I wrote an authorized Pentax repairer in Australia. They said that it sounded like the Sensor, but Pentax no longer stocks this part. Where can I source one? Any ideas? Would seem a waste if this unit could not be repaired.

You'd be better off buying another used K-10D than trying to repair the one you have - it will probably less expensive. A parts camera would probably be the only source at this point.

Look around in the local adds for a second hand K10D; a working one will simply replace your current one and you keep the old one for spares (just in case).
A non-working one can be used as donor (if the sensor is OK), but don't forget that the repair centre will also charge labour, so it will probably still be relatively expensive.

$45 US with free shipping (not international though)

Pentax K10D Sensor Unit | eBay

Based on a K-x teardown, this piece can be replaced by anyone with basic soldering skills and a small screwdriver. These cameras are modular, and this assembly is mounted by 4 screws and a socketed ribbon connector. Does your camera have lens focus fine tuning? Anytime you replace a lens mount or sensor you risk disturbing the factory calibration but its not normally an issue with body driven focusing or when swapping working (calibrated) assemblies. PM me if interested in a repair with this ebay part. Im in USA and this is NOT my auction.

The K10D may have similarities to the K-x, but they are quite different cameras in terms of their tech.

No, the K10D does not have lens focus calibration as a user-accessible feature. There is a focus calibration utility available through the debug menu.

According to the K10D service manual to remove the main board you have to unsolder 23 connection and disonnect 3 flex cables (two 2 point and one 3 point connector) and 3 glued screws hold the SR - CCD module. A 35mm block gauge and he service adjustment software is needed to adjust the SR module.
