K-50 media card will no longer load when inserted into slot. can it be repaired at a store or sent back to Pentax?

It can be repaired by Precision Camera, either under warranty or at your expense. Did any debris accidentally get stuck in the slot perhaps?

No debris, card goes in but does not "click" into place.

Any card or just a particular one? Make sure it isn't just a busted card.

Card reader is a 'push-push' design, card is retained by small latch. There is a chance that this latch is not functioning. The reader is soldered to pcb and repair will most likely be a new pcb as few repair SMT components now days. Might i suggest a micro SD card adapter installed and retained by other means (small pin would work) and then use micro SD card as removeable media? It will work and wont cost you anything but 5 minutes with a pin drill and a $13 32GB mSD card/adapter from B&H.

I would try the warranty route first. If they fix it under warranty. Great. If they don't, you can still destroy your camera drilling holes into it.

Hahahaaa! I see where this thread is going......This would be the second place I would turn for repair if it were STILL under warranty. The first place being your retailer! I understand many people would gladly pony up $166 to repair a $291 camera if it were out of warranty, but a few of us would not. Wow, is it getting hot in here?
