K5 won't turn on

Following on from this tale of woe

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/299884-da-5...tact-pins.html

I put the lens back together and then onto my K5. Powered up, battery indicator immediately flashed empty, camera shut down, has been dead ever since (even with a different lens). Any ideas for getting it going and brightening up my day?

just making sure our bases are covered. Does the camera work without a lens attached at all?

No, exactly the same with no lens on, completely dead. Have also tried it with an SMC-A manual lens, again, exactly the same result.

Have just spotted that there is a very faint red light flashing in the viewfinder

If possible, you might try batteries in a different body....if the battery works in body #2, then you have ruled out batteries and the battery charger as the problem....

If the K-5 is the issue, look at the contacts in the battery compartment. Look normal? nothing bent, corroded etc.

If batteries are determined to be OK, and battery connections in the affected body seem OK......then double check the on/off switch. you can try spraying some electronics contact cleaner underneath the on/off switch, then work the switch back and forth. If that doesn't solve the issue...well, that suggests a short or something else on the Main board within the power supply circuitry....and sadly, I have no suggestions after that....doubt its worth a trip to a repair shop. Cost to replace is probably less than cost of repair.....

Good luck...hope its just a battery or battery charger issue.

Perhaps we should try a mating with my K-3, which will not turn off.
