Lens causes mirror to go up in movie mode

Hello Everyone,

I have been using a second-hand Pentax DA* 16-50mm f2.8 lens and it has been acting up. First of all, when the lens is mounted and the camera is in movie mode, the mirror of the camera keeps going up then back down, causing the live view on the LCD to turn on and off. When I put the camera in any other mode, the AF.S/AF.C/M indicator constantly changes back and forth from the AF mode I have selected to M. Secondly, the aperture value keeps changing from a -- reading to whatever value I select. I can also not access the menus with the lens mounted as it keeps pulling me back to the main screen as if I half pressed and released the shutter button, however it does not turn off the rear LCD as if I actually half pressed the shutter button for a photo.

The auto focus works, albeit in a very poor fashion, often requiring many attempts to even get close to a good focus. The aperture selected will be correct when the picture is taken for the most part, however there are times when the aperture is not functioning and f22 will be used, even though a larger aperture is selected.

I have tried cleaning the contacts on the lens and the camera, as well as putting the lens and camera in manual focus mode. Neither of these solutions made a difference. I also put on a different lens to see if it was a problem with the camera itself, and the camera and lens operates fine. Side note, the camera is the K30.

I am at my wits end with this lens as it is one of the more expensive lenses in my collection and would love for it to just work again. If anyone has any idea(s) of what to do or even understands my problem, it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's definitely not a problem with the camera since when it loses its connection to the lens, it's designed to exit out of live view. Could be a problem with the electronics in the lens. If the mount doesn't feel loose I would send it in for service.

Thanks Adam! Would Pentax do these repairs or would I have to have it sent to a local shop, of which I have none in my city.
