K3 auto focus points.

Just received my new K3 and am going through the features. Changing auto focus points pushing the AF button while using either wheel does not change from spot on the lcd or the top dial. Now, I have only manual focus lens currently, so I'm wondering if this feature is disabled without an auto focus lens?

The lens must have KAF, KAF2, or KAF3 mount in order to use other than the center AF point. The manual (p81) is a little confusing on this point since it shows conditional focus point select for series "A" lenses, the condition being that you are limited to center point spot only

Not positive but I believe on a manual focus lens you only get center point focus indication. It works that way on older lenses, not sure about new manual ones like the Samyang ones.

Thanks. The lens I was using was a Zeiss Makro 50mm f2 manual lens. Not an old lens. I just tried a Rokinon 85mm and it does the same thing. I guess I need to buy an auto lens

You can only use AF point selection with A-type lenses, I believe. It's either that or AF lenses.

Does not work on my Pentax-A 50mm. I think it needs to be Pentax-F or newer.

Right, so then they need to me F type lenses or newer, i.e. with in-lens electronics that communicate with the camera. But if you put an AF lens in MF mode, you should still be able to select the AF points. That's what I was remembering

Yep, just tested that and that is how it works.
