Portrait lens

My Sigma 400 AF isn't a quality lens - but I do use it as a portrait lens at times. The softness can be flattering.

So the softness is quality you like, thus it's a quality lens.

In some ways yes. It lacks contrast which I don't like. It is only when used to shoot portraits that I like the softness. And to be fair portraits is the wrong word. Candids are what I use the lens for as far as shooting people.
