K-30 and Live-View

Is it possible to keep Live-View mode between shots without the mirror making lots of noice and going back from Live-View.

If not , is it the same problem on new models like K-S01 ?

Best regards

Good question. I love my K-30, but there are times when it would be nice to take a completely silent shot.

My Panasonic GX7 has a "silent mode" which switches the camera to electronic shutter and disables all beeps. Taking a picture is completely silent. I set one of my custom fn buttons to engage/disengage silent mode. Really cool!

I don't use Live view very much so had never really noticed. I tried mine and it is definitely quieter using the view finder.
Edgar...I know this won't help others , but my quiet mode is to turn off my hearing aids

I don't believe any Pentax dSLR operates with a purely electronic shutter for exposures from live view. The K-3 does not cycle the mirror (shutter only), but I cannot recall reading any reviews that detail the behavior for the K-S1/K-S2 cameras.

I was researching the same issue a couple months ago when trying to decide between the K-S2 or K-3, and found a post on the forums. Try searching for "K-S2 mirror lockup." As I recall, the answer is that the K-S2 has the same linked mirror/shutter system as the K-30 (which is what I was upgrading from), where the mirror has to cycle for the shutter to work. I bought the K-3.

K-30 or K-3 silent mirror in Live View

If I read correct then the conlusion would be that K3 can keep silent between shots.
However I remember reading an article that said maximum time was 1 minute for K3 to keep Live View going. Is that a fact or just a misunderstanding.
If I want to take Pictures in silence, then i will probably need 5 minutes or so, which should not be possible without 1 minute break in between.
Has anyone tried 5 minutes Live View on a K3 or a K3 II.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

No, that is not true. The exposure sequence for live view on the K-3 is as follows:
  • Display blanks
  • Following curtain closes (noise)
  • Mechanical shutter action (noise)
    • Leading curtain starts
    • Following curtain starts
    • Leading curtain finishes
    • Shutter resets
  • Leading curtain opens (noise)
  • Display activates
The mirror-up shutter sound on the K-3 is quite muted, but hardly silent.

For interval shooting in live view the display remains blank for the entire interval. with the only sound being the actual shutter action for exposure. For other than interval shooting the configured "Auto Power Off" time-out applies. This feature can be turned off, but again the shutter is always mechanical and never completely silent.
