My K3II has a proper mirror up facility, check the manual, page 53. If you do not have this camera, a PDF can be downloaded from Ricoh / Pentax website to see if getting this model would be of benefit.

Yep...it would be nice if the mirror would stay up without a "reset" step (say, for interval work) or have it available as other that I drive setting, but what we have is good.

Thanks some useful info there, especially Stevebrot.

A few experiments have persuaded me to use remote mirror up, rather than the two seconds.

Ive determined my ball head is creeping occasionally, which isn't helping - it is made worse, I think, by my tendency to use it in portrait mode rather than landscape as this creates more torque on the mounting.
