I do have a multimeter, but I am not very proficient with it. Perhaps you can guide me a little? I would be grateful.

K sounds like a plan. Bottom and top do you think?
The only ones that you can bend easily are the top (inside) ones.
The ones on the door of the battery compartment are pretty much fixed.

Tried bending the contacts. No help. The ones on the battery door bend freely but the ones on the bottom took some effort.

Here is a picture of my attempt to short the switch:

And here is a picture of the switch:

I don't know if you can tell, but the fourth prong on the switch got bent, so I tried to bend it back the best I could. I do not think this is a problem since it was not powering on before I bent it but it's worth mentioning.

I am pretty close to scrapping this old girl for parts, but before I do I'm open to a few more suggestions. I would love to take it completely apart for fun and poke around but I sort of need the money soon.

Thanks for all the help.

Have you tried a power adapter?

I have not. I wonder if a local camera shop would plug it in for free.

Update: decided to scrap her for parts. If you know a good place to sell them besides eBay or if you happen to need any parts let me know!

Thanks for the help.

You can list it as not working for parts only on eBay.

I bet they would hardly give you anything for it. But I know that they do have a repair facility, so they night have an interest in a parts camera.

Sorry for the late reply, had a tight schedule.
Are you sure you actually shorted the correct contacts? Repairing it is unlikely, but shorting connections can make it worse.
Activating a switch or button while checking the connection with a multimeter can give you some insights. Start with the Continuity check - it beeps if two contacts are connected with a resistance below a certain value (multimeter specific, see manual). Run the combinations which are nearby of the switch. Use the continuity test only without battery/power or you get false positives.
You can also measure voltage and check how far the supply reaches into the system. Measure with one probe to ground and a connected battery. Ground could be where the black wire from the battery connects to the flexible electronics. A continuity test between this pin to most of the metal frame and screws of the camera should be positive (remember: no battery).
Even if you want to scrap for parts this could be interesting to try.
