If you get the pentax version of the TC it will work.
You manual focus by turning the focus ring...

It will mount and work. However you will need to use stop down metering. read through this: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/110658-u...x-dslrs-f.html

As to focusing it will be all manual, you turn the focusing ring on the lens. And no there will not be a red light in the view finder. You should get the green hex for focus confirmation, I'm not familiar with the k200d but I believe it has that.

As to using the 2x TC, that will give you a 400mm f/8 lens which will be somewhat dark to focus with. I do not recommend using a 2x TC as my results have not been very good. However, technically it will work, so give it a try and see if the results are OK.

The M* 300 is a great lens when you can nail the focus.

Do you have liveview on the K200D? I tend to use liveview a lot for manual lenses, and particularly the magnified image available in liveview. You can be out just a bit with focus on a long lens and it will show up in the final image due to the limited depth of field. The magnified liveview tends to show slight misfocus quite clearly. Often it is 1-2mm of movement on the focus ring that makes the difference. Magnified liveview is darn hard to work with though if handholding as the image jerks around a lot. When possible, I will use a tripod or a monopod to help stabilise things. Also stopping down to F8 or so will also help by increasing the depth of field and hiding any small mis-focus errors.

I keep umming about getting a better focussing screen to improve focus accuracy using the optical viewfinder, but to date haven't thaken that step.

Also, if your M*300 came with an old UV filter or similar, the filter may have deteriorated if is the type that uses a gel between two layers of glass. If so, it could really affect image quality badly. I was wondering why my M*300 images looked poor. Then I realised the filter was the culpit. The improvement was a revelation.

Pentax introduced (a kind of) live view only with the K20D.

When the K10D started, it was not yet a standard for DSLRs.
And K200D and K-m (K2000 in US) inherited most of their features from the K10D.

The K200D has a CCD sensor, so no live view.
