How do I sync a K3 with a Metz 52 AF-1 off-camera?

I just bought the Metz AF 52-1 to use with my K3 and it works great on camera. However, I would like to be able to use it off camera as well, without firing the built in flash on the camera. Can I get a wireless or cable link to do this? Any advice and information would be welcome as I am new to the flash thing. Thanks!

Depends on what exactly you want to do. If you want to keep P-TTL then there's a cable availale Lastolite Ttl Connection Cable For Pttl Pentax 3M: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo is the version I think I've got or you can get some cactus wireless triggers which work fine, but you lose P-TTL. I've got both (and have 48-AF1 and 58AF-1 flash guns).

You can also use the built-in flash in "Controller" mode. It fires and sets off the Metz, but does not contribute to the lighting.

Will the flash still go on the stand when the cable is attached?

From memory yes. I'd need to go and dig my cable out to check (I think it is the same cable I've got)

Have a cable I use with a Stroboframe, on the bottom side has the slot that could be used on a stand.

This kit will do the job. The AF-1 could go on the accessory hot shoe and be used off camera via the 3m cable. If you want the flash further off camera you should look into wireless triggers like the Cactus system, but you would lose P-TTL capability.

Nice set up, what model is your Vello ? Must be A50/1.2 sweet!

Have the Cactus V6 and a couple RF60 loss your P-TTL, good solid build for the money.

It's the Vello Quickshot Rotating Flash Bracket. If you click on the link, all the kit is described in detail in the comments.
The lens on the camera is the DA*50-135 much bigger than my A50/1.2
