K10 lens issue

I just got a new lens for Christmas. I can't get it to auto focus. I put the lens on and when I look thru the view finder it says MF. Is it a problem with my camera or lens?

TIA

Is the switch on the camera set to AF? Make sure the contacts on the lens/mount are clean, and try re-mounting it.

What lens do you have?

Also, make sure you're running the latest firmware version (1.31), which adds support for SDM/DC lenses.

Even with firmware 1.31, I have similar issue, but only occassionally. I just dismount and mount back lens and sometimes I had powered off the camera for 30 secs and power it back up.

Yes the camera and the lens are both switched to AF. That was the first thing I checked. I've even switched them to MF and back thinking maybe that would work. I got the sigma 18-250 lens.

How do I check my firmware? I didn't know I had to do that.

Thanks

I unfortunately tried both of those things with no victory. I'm very bummed out right now.

Thanks

You should try if the lens is working with another Pentax camera body ... if you have one (or know someone, whose camera) you can use for that purpose.

The firmware version of the K10 is displayed, when you switch it on having simultaneously the 'menu'-key pressed.

The firmware version is also stored in the EXIF data for every image.
