I am afraid to mount my used lens on my camera!!!! Help.

I purchased this lens on Ebay. The listing said it was for Pentax K mount and that it was an AF lens.

The problem is that it has a large flange on the mount unlike my other lenses. My instincts tell me not to mount it on the camera. Are my instincts correct. See image of the mount below......

Your instincts are correct. Not a Pentax mount.

Would you have more information about the lens, what's stamped on it? Agreed with the response above, that does not look like a Pentax mount.

That is correct, Canon mount.

I've seen ads state that a Canon mount could be used on Pentax but that is not the case.

Does anyone want to buy a Sigma 100-300mm AF zoom for $45 in Canon mount? LOL!

Oh the solution is easy here - just buy a Canon DSLR!

Yes. Even if you could find another buyer who would cover your out of pocket costs, there is a principle to be upheld here. If ever there was a time to invoke the "did not get what I was explicitly told I was getting" clause, it is now. Not everyone should be expected to know just by looking at ebay pictures what the mount is - the seller has to be clear, and if they explicitly stated this was compatible with a Pentax mount when it wasn't, they have broken the rules and must be made to pay the price.

Unfortunately I have seen this way too many times on Ebay. I used to contact the sellers about these, but many times I was either ignored or told I had no idea what I was talking about. But yes that is definitely a Cannon EF mount. If you used PayPal I would contact them as well. If the seller does take it back they should definitely should pay return shipping. Your money should be refunded since it definitely was not as described. Most sellers now wold rather settle then have you open a dispute. Ebay has really cracked down on seller disputes. Most likely in my opinion they would just refund your money and tell you to keep it for such a low cost item.

At the very least, make a comment in the feedback saying that he claimed it was a Pentax mount, when it was really a Canon mount. The seller may not know what that means, but potential future buyers will.

Did you try ebay first? i would recommend it as another approach. They are very tough on sellers and give them the opportunity to make it right which most do.

Yes, in most cases you would just tell the seller, hey this ain't what it is supposed to be and they will fix it, refund it, whatever. Some people are jerks, but most are just clueless about the equipment...
