K-5 IIs external stereo mic problem

Hi, It's my first time here. Hate to start with a problem, but hope You can help.
I plugged audio technica 24pro stereo mic and from what I know the videos should be in stereo.
When I check the details of the movies windows says mono every time. I cannot hear much difference in the sound quality btw. Is the internal mic that good or my external mic is faulty?
Thanks for replies

Maybe Windows does not recognise the fact that a stereo mic was used, possibly given the fact that the internal mic is mono. It sounds like you are happy with the sound reproduction though? Does it play back in stereo?

Perhaps your external mic wasn't plugged in all the way?

I have tried to make comparison recordings with internal mic, and the external one. It can work in two modes, powered from the jack and with its own battery. The difference is hard to hear. I double checked the file with mediainfo and it also shows mono just like windows.

Have you used the microphone with other recording devices previously to become familiar with its sound signature? A one point x/y stereo mike does not have very much stereo separation, especially at a distance. You could perform a close proximity recording test to confirm left and right channel functionality. Just speak to one side then the other while monitoring on headphones or listen to playback to check. The mike is designed exactly for this application, so it should work. If in camera playback has a stereo image then there may be a problem with the Windows video codec not reading the audio tracking info properly. Are you using a video editing program?

It is definitely odd that video programs are reporting the file from the k5iis as having a mono audio track. The camera manual states the external mike jack is for a stereo microphone. I have a K3ii, and the video files do have a stereo audio track when opened in Adobe Premiere. Pentax did redo the video function between models. I suppose it is possible the two mike channels are just mixed together into one track. That would be disappointing. It would be great if another K5iis video user would chime in about this issue.

Thanks for all Your replies. I have solved the problem. Actually Adam was right and I am an idiot Well, ok, I simply know nothing about mics and movies. Here's the entire mystery:
Audio Technica 24cm can -as I said earlier- work either on plug in jack power or on battery you put inside. However if the camera has powered jack, the second option -battery- cannot be used and put inside the mic. If it is inside, the mic doesn't work and Pentax records mono. After removing the battery and switching the mic on, Pentax records proper stereo files
