Exif Reader

I downloaded Exiftool(k) by Phil Harvey onto my desktop a few years back and it's worked ok ever since with my K5 by dragging and dropping files to the icon.

After taking my K3ii out for the first time yesterday, I did the same. The info that came up was very confusing. After what must have been 5000 -6000 numbers under AE, Flash and Slave Flash metering segments there was not the amount of info that is displayed on my K5 shots. Not even the camera model or make. It gave the manufacture date and a serial number.

I thought initially that, as it was loaded onto my desktop 4-5 years ago, it wouldn't recognise the K3ii, the reader would need updating.

I deleted the program and downloaded the latest version, that was created on 22 Jan 2016, but the same happened. The K5 files read perfectly.

I put the same K3ii files into the 'Check shutter count and manufacture date' resource on the forum and all of the info displayed perfectly.

Any ideas or solutions ?

Odds are the tool doesn't take into account changes in the files for Pixel-Shift information. It's probably a change in the byte offsets. I would contact the developer through the support forums.

I just checked an image taken with my K-3 and Exiftool is reading all the data correctly. It must be something particular to the K-3ii - @NotaNumber is probably right.

I mostly use the free program Picture Information Extractor these days: Picture Information Extractor - EXIF IPTC | Picmeta Systems It captures all the information I want (including shutter count). Maybe try that.

The latest version I've downloaded is 10.1.0 dated 22nd Jan 2016. I've tried it on 3 different computers with exactly the same results.

Did you try version 9.02? What files are you using - PEF, DNG or JPEG? Try different formats.

If it works on DNG and JPEG but not PEF in version 10.10 then post a message on the developers support forum and give them sample files when requested so they can fix the problem.

Good to hear. PIE is a great little program. It can sort your photos by lens, and rename files according to a specified scheme, amongst many other things.

I don't know if the previous version I had was 9.02 but that not working was what prompted me to install the latest.

Neither DNG or JPEGs work

Well really the only way to resolve the problem is to contact the developer:

I am running ExifTool v9.76 and have not encountered any problems with K-3 files (DNG or PEF) from my camera or the K-3II files I have downloaded, though I did not do a thorough go through on the K-3II files. My expectations would be that it would simply fail-over to numeric values where mappings were not known for new cameras/lenses and not display for unknown tags.

The tag file for Pentax (last updated 7 Jan 2016) has the K3ii listed.

Version 10.10 was dated 22 Jan 2016.
