Still confused on M mount compatibility w/ k1

From what I've read my understanding is that the new K-1 WILL be compatible with M mount lenses but it will leave the aperture wide open? Or would I be able to adjust the aperture?

You can certainly adjust the aperture using the aperture ring. The only limitation (like on all other Pentax DSLRs) is that you have to get the camera to stop the lens down just prior to shooting to get a light reading. This allows the camera to set the correct shutter speed for the aperture you selected.

This extra step is necessary because the K-1 and other Pentax K-mount DSLRs lack the coupler that would allow the camera to sense the position of the aperture ring.

Watch this tutorial video and you'll see just how easy it is

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

By M-mount, are you referring to Leica M bayonet? If so, the answer is no, the K-1 cannot be adapted to that mount. If you are referring to Pentax-M series lenses, you will be able to shoot with fully automatic aperture*, though only in M mode. If you are referring to M42 screw mount and want to shoot other than wide open you must switch the aperture to fully manual operation.

Steve

* Lens stops down to to the setting on the aperture ring at time of exposure and reopens when the exposure is finished.

I was talking about the latter so that absolutely confirms the answer. Thank you so much Steve!

I have a few Pentax M-series I love and was hoping they would work with my first venture into full frame so this is a great help!
