K-x shutter replacement?

My one spare KX's shutter has become erratic and I think is about to go. I see "refurb" replacement shutter boxes/modules on eBay for around $50 and I'm thinking of taking the plunge, but some questions:

1) How difficult is it to replace the shutter and are there online instructions anywhere? My own search failed to turn up anything.

2) How reliable are "refurbished" shutters? Can I expect the same lifetime as original shutter?

Thanks for your thoughts/ help.

I replaced the shutter on a Pentax ZX-M film camera and it wasn't that bad. The main issue is you'll have to remove almost everything to get to it, then reassemble. The shutter itself is the easy part, maybe four screws and soldering six wires. The timing is electronic so you shouldn't need adjustment. Just don't poke a finger through it. I would set up a workplace where you could take photos of each step, so you can refer to the photos when reassembling. Look for any disassembly video, not just shutter replacement. That'll give you an idea of how to get into the camera.

Yes, take many photos if not a whole video while you are disassembling (complete with screw and hole from which it originated). I took my K-r apart last year to clean the dials on the top. The dials (and well everything) come off from the inside. You have to remove A TON of screws (including some rather long ones in the battery slot) and they are various sizes that fit only in the spot they were intended. Perhaps getting at the shutter is a little different but the same tips apply.

So please document thoroughly.
