Extension Tube K 3

When I screw on the extension tube everything becomes very dark, so that I cannot see what I am looking at, I am using a DA lens with either one or three tubes attached
any suggestions. These are just basic tubes.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

That might be your problem. Do your tubes have the actuator coupling for aperture (lever on back of mount)? Without that your DA lens will be fully stopped down when mounted rather than fully open. Note too, that unless the tubes have contacts on the base, you will be limited to shooting wide open with lenses lacking an aperture ring.

If they are cheap tubes without an auto-aperture lever or a catch for the lever on the lens the lens would be stopped down.

Yep...thanks for catching the ambiguity in my reply. With DA lens, no lever = always full closed. Lever, but no contacts = always full open.

I had the same problem recently with my flower shots, and I wanted to shoot f9.5 - f11, making focussing in the dim indoor light impossible. The actual exposure was no problem due to the use of flash , but I used my AF-540FGZII flash solely for its LED lamp to illuminate the flowers for focussing at the stopped down aperture ..... You can see the images plus the equipment here ....
