issue with K-5 iis & da 40mm xs

Hi Pentaxians

I received my k-5 iis from Keh today and was happy with it by using da 70mm lens
Then I tried my 40mm xs which I purchased along with k-01

To my surprise, the aperture was not working on k-5 iis - and I was not able to take any picture.
I thought lens is not working - but when I used it on K-01 - it still works.
I know this sounds crazy - but I am going thro it
any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

I could be missing something

- Sram

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the camera and lens?

So what mode is the K-5 iis set to? When you mount the DA 70 - it doesn't change modes, but when you mount the DA 40 xs it does? Weird.

Hi UncleVanya
k-01 is set to Auto mode and k-5 iis is set to Green mode, but the 40m xs works fine on k-01 - but not on k-5 iis (basically aperture gets locked) - i have cleaned all contacts of 40mm xs and also k-5 iis.

my 70mm lens works fine on both k-5 iis and k-01

not sure what am i missing

A few years ago, I had a different, albeit not dissimilar issue with my DA 40mm xs. It was very tight and difficult to replace on my K-01, but it was fine on the K-7:

I am not sure if the discussions of the thread may help.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the aperture actuating lever on the DA 40/2.8 XS is slightly bent and while your K-01 can still catch the lever to actuate the diaphragm while the K-5IIs cannot. I admit it's a long shot but try comparing the aperture actuating lever on your lenses and see if they are identical or not.

For grins try another mode like Av and see what happens.

When you mount the 40 xs on the k5 iis, does the aperture stay closed or is it stuck open (i n green mode)?

UncleVanya - no change even in AV mode, it stays closed (not at 2.8, more likely 8 or more)

thank you excanonfd, you were spot on, the aperture lever on 40mm xs was bent and i came to know after comparing with lever on 70mm limited. Now can i use my bare hand and make it straight, and make it work - i dont remember bending or may be it was designed like that

Suggest how could i make it straight - but u guys are best - u found what problem was.....

Thanks again and again - you guys are best !!!!
I really cant imagine the experience you have got - is unmatchable.... :adore:

Glad it worked out for you and yes, using bare hands to straighten the bent lever is the safest way.
