What To Expect From K-1 and these two lenses.

I have saved enough money to purchase a K-1 but not the lens I want to get yet. I have two lenses I use with my K3-II and want to know if I use these two lenses what can I expect from the K-1 and these lenses - Pentax-DA 1:3.5-5.5 16-85mm ED DC WR and a Pentax HD DA 20-40mm F2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR.

Thank you, any help would be greatly appreciated.

In crop mode they should work fine. In FF, the 20-40 is reputed to be OK from maybe 24mm but I don't have it so I cannot verify. The 16-85 is not very useful in my opinion.

16, 24, 35, 50 and 85mm:

I've seen conflicting reports on the 20-40, one that it's a nice 23-40mm and one less enthusiastic using a Sony A7. Hopefully both of these will be tested & posted here soon!

In short, unless you spring for new glass, I think you are better off with the K-3II. You are not going to see anything magical in image quality improvement.. It is an amazing camera but hanging the 16-85 on it is not going to produce anything you could not do better with the k-3II.

In short, they're not really worth using on the K-1. But they're perfect on your K-3 II

You could replace them with the D FA 24-70mm or 28-105mm and FA 20-35mm if you decided to go down the full-frame route.

I am looking at the K-1 in the next year or so, and quite bluntly I hold out little enthusiasm or optimism for the use of any DA zoom on it. If I didn't already have a zoom lens ready to go on it (yes, it's only an FA kit lens, but so what?), I would be looking at the D-FA 28-105 for sure.

Well thank you all for your comments it is what I thought it would be, but was hoping against hope. I guess I will buy the 24-70mm F2.8 which I can use on my K3-II and then when I have saved up and get the K-1 then I will already have the lens I want for the K-1. thanks again for the comments

And don't forget some third party legacy lenses or older A style lenses. They may not be auto focus, but with the K-1 and the focus assist, they darn close! These you can pick up for some nice prices and then you are up an running.

jatrax apparently did not remove the hood (which of course is designed for APS-C coverage) when taking the photos above - just in case anybody is wondering - actual coverage without the hood at the wide end is similar to what it is at 50 and 85

If you are budget conscious or impatient or both can I suggest a legacy lens pathway to satisfy your needs?

If you are willing to entertain this as a short to medium term solution then there are many choices open to you. Many here will make suggestion to assist you in your thoughts. My immediate 'budget' oriented thought with high performance glass in mind is the following:

Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70mm F2.6-2.8 Lens Reviews - Tokina Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

Apparently the version with the screw in lens hood is the one to chase, but, the version immediately after this (i.e. the 'PRO' version not the PRO II or PRO SV)

Another read

https://talktog.wordpress.com/2014/07/22/lens-review-tokina-at-x-270-pro-f2-6-2-8/

But you will need to use a hood with this lens (I have one and can attest to the need for a hood).

Another good read and helpful in picking the right one

I appreciate all the comments and you guys are wonderful resource for anyone who comes to this forum. I have made a decision not to for go any extra zoom lens on my K3-II, because I am already get such great photos out of the two Pentax lenses I already have as seen by the photo I posted. I do need a lens for my nature shots. I use to have many with the Canon cameras 20D, 40D and 7D but sold all of my stuff to go Pentax K3-II and weather proof lens by Pentax and I am truly not sorry I did. I prefer not to have a zoom lens for my long nature shots, so I am going to settle for the Pentax DA 300mm F/4 ED (IF) SDM for now and shoot for 2018 to have my K-1 and Pentax 24-70mm lens. Once again, thank you all for you support and advice, this is truly a good place to come if you want to know about Pentax.

If it were me, I'd save money for another year when you can get a lens or two that you really want that are fully compatible with the K-1. In that time pricing for the 15-30, 24-70, and the 28-105 will go down as will the K-1 itself.

I think if I bought some of that gear now and then waited a year for the rest, I'd be stuck thinking that I was not getting all of the "good" out of the kit, and stomaching the depreciation in the meantime.

Meanwhile, checkout some of the old and cheap F series zooms like the F35-70, you might be pleasantly surprised for very little money.
