no problem in crop-Mode. It's "DA" made for APS-C. when I remember right, it is useable from 18mm to 24 mm on FF

It starts fully covering FF at around 20mm, which isn't bad, really.

If you happen to have one, not too bad from 18mm -> 24mm.
If you don't happen to have one, go for a samyang 14mm, or a pentax 15-30, or a second hand sigma 12-24.

too bad none of these take 100*100 filters. The larger sizes are really large & expensive...

Maybe a dumb question, but anyway
Will the da 12 24 (in crop mode) take some sort of advantage of the increase in DR from the K1 vs the K3 e.g.?

Just thinking that the 12-24 in crop mode (for when you want 'wide') and the FF 24-70 might be a nice landscape combo that can both take the same filter size.

The Sigma 12-24 is a full frame lens.

we were discussing the da 12 24 on FF
the options mentioned are FF but i made the point that they all require large (150) square filters.

So I just bought a da 12 24 secondhand & a 100 filtersystem for my K3 instead of investing the whole nine yard on a K1, FF wide angle and large square filter system.

Having the latest & the greatest is fun, but the K3 still is more than good enough.
When the K1 or 2 comes around, there will still be room for the da12 24. Good glass is good glass i guess..

If Lex Fagg had a Pentax 12-24, he would know how it performed on FF, I merely suggested a lens that would work properly. Lex made no mention of 100x100 filters, sounds like a thread hijacking to me.

sorry, thought you were confused, my bad. I considered the sigma as well, but a real negative to me was the bigger & expensive filters it would need.. Maybe indeed not of concern to Lex though.. Just worth taking into account. But OP didn't really ask for alternatives either.

Apart from the usability from 20mm or so in FF mode, noone seems to have an answer on 'how' it performs.

Not many people use filters on modern cameras with colour control in the menu, although I have not got the patience to learn how to use it. Polarising filters don't work as well with super wide angles of view.
If I could afford one of these super FF beasties, the last thing I would invest in would be lenses that limit it. Of course this doesn't apply to APSC lenses already owned.
