Focussing screen should not be in the AF line of view, as that is in through the mirror to the AF mirror to the pdaf sensor in the bottom.

Better ask this at a Canon forum though. Here's a start: Re: Rebel XT autofocus failure: Canon Rebel (EOS 300D-760D) Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

Did you place the shim back in before placing the screen ?
If you need to replace the screen, I'd buy it from Canon as a spare part.

I realized that a cause could very well be a mirror. Do you know if a cannon repair shop will install a new mirror?

I would ask that of Canon since we are a Pentax Forum, you would probably get better service from Canon.

So cannon would surely be able to do the job?

I couldn't say for sure they would even fix it, but Canon "not cannon" would most assuredly be able to answer your questions than a Pentax forum could.

That is a question for your Canon service and repair shop.

You need to ask them, or ask on a Canon forum. They'll be able to help you better than we can. Good luck.

I suspected that may be the case.

But.

I have replied to a few of this guy's questions in an attempt to help him, but so far he has failed to respond.
