Bought a New Old Stock Hoya made battery by mistake, should I keep it

I was looking for a second OEM battery for my K-50 and an eBay seller had one for $30. I have to admit, I bought on price and that they had decent feedback. However, when I got it, I noticed it was a Hoya made battery, which makes it a few years old.

It does appear new and I have to say the seller is honest, the listing shows it is a Hoya battery. I just jumped on the deal without thinking.

They have a 30 day return policy although I have to pay shipping back to China.

As I said, I do want to be clear, the battery does appear new and it was not misrepresented. But is it worth keeping.

Edit-Nevermind, it looks like shipping is like $14. I am normally a pretty good shopper, so I am pretty disappointed I didn't see it was a Hoya battery.

If it is the same battery type (model number and composition (NOT NiCad) I might let it go and just use it. If the battery is not used, even though it is older, it will have plenty of life in it. What kills rechargeable batteries the most is having them constantly on charge or over charging, which builds up heat in the battery, which is what really kills it. Give it a good charge and see if it holds the charge and gives similar performance to your original batteries.

I alternate my old Hoya ex-K-5 battery with the new Ricoh one, and they're pretty much the same in charge lifetime terms. If it holds charge after the first time then I'd go with it.

I'm still using a Hoya-labelled K-7 battery. No problems.

The original battery from my K10d still works great. I suspect it will be just fine.

I would use it, they reach their maximum capacity after three or four charging cycles, so use it preferentially until then.
