My 50 won't focus !!!

Hi folks. I am gaining lots of knowledge from you wonderful people. I read the " help me with............." threads and I am constantly amazed by how little I actually know !! I have noticed a few threads lately seeking help, but not supplying enough information in which to help. Hence my thread title. So if any newbies are reading this, and even a couple of the longer term members ( you know who you are ), please help the helpers by giving as much relevant information as you can to prevent members having to post follow up questions. If your 50mm won't focus, which 50mm is it. Which camera are you using. AF or MF. Tripod/monopod or hand held. Bright sunny day or candlelight. Cheers.

PS. I have written this thread for purely selfish reasons, as I want to learn as much as I can from you all.

PPS. Dear " MODS," apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum.

Trouble shooting and help forum is where you ask these questions, so I've removed it from General Photography forum to the correct forum.

The General Photography forum is for photography related discussions that don't seem to fit in any of the other forums. All of the forums have a brief but informative description as to what should be posted in them. If your topic is photography related and doesn't seem to fit anywhere else within the Photography Category, it goes here.

  • Asking for identification of a photographic object.
  • Questions about image hosting sites.
  • Images from unidentified sources.
  • Sources for equipment discussion.
  • Photography book or magazine discussion.
  • Links to old, or historical photos.
  • Old camera ads.
  • "I'm in a rut; how do I get motivated?" or "Lets see your camera collection" type discussions.
  • Political/legal issues DIRECTLY RELATED TO PHOTOGRAPHY.
  • Computer questions related to photography, such as SD cards, backing up, scanners or printers. Do not ask questions about digital photo processing or photo related software as those topics belong here.

You're welcome!

We ask that members provide as much information as they can when posting for help, but lots of members, being new, get excited if their cameras, lens, flashes, etc aren't working and all they want are answers. Probably why there are follow up questions. After all, they are only human.

Good luck with this but generally those people won't read any thread or do a search before popping their question. Your 50 what? Your K-50 your 50mm lens? your 50 minions?

and half the time they never return to the thread to let anyone know: 1) any additional information, or 2) whether or not their issue was solved....

And many do not use the excellent search feature. There is a fair chance your question has been asked and answered before.

I think if ever a member requires help focusing their minions, they need some sort of sanction, or a medication change !!!

I have sensed that frustration, hence the thread. It takes nothing, and shares the goodwill if a simple " thank you " is given. Most of the members here are very eager to help out, but being taken for granted sucks. Thankfully a very good number of the " helpees " are appreciative.

I see that a lot too, where a member will link a past thread as help. This is a vast site, and I wonder if the newbies are aware of how to maximize its use.

Thank you for your responses to this thread. Hopefully someone will read it and be a bit more aware of what is needed to help them.

My minions are notoriously scatterbrained. If I thought medicating them, or myself would actually help...

The search feature is immensely useful, but I do understand that newcomers might find it overwhelming and need a little help to filter the information. Sometimes people don't even realize which details are relevant, or which factors can contribute to a given issue.

That is very true eyrr, but a little " digging " before asking for help really should not be too difficult. I like to try and help myself a bit 1st, before asking others.
I enjoy the " thrill of the hunt " for information. Thanks for the response.
