ME Super shutter does not raise when winding on

Hi everyone,

I recently got an ME Super with some lenses (which are what I really wanted). The advance arm moves smoothly but only occasionally raises the shutter and allows the shutter button to work. The rest of the time it just moves, then can be moved again but the shutter won't raise and the camera won't fire.

Somewhere inside there must be something which is not engaging properly. I've opened up the bottom of the camera and had a look but there's no obvious problem there, so I think it must be further in.

Has anyone ever seen this problem and have any idea how it might be fixed?

Many thanks

This website is informative: I don't know if it will allow you to fix your particular problem.

For what it's worth:

-I have an ME Super that displayed the same symptoms as yours, and I tried to fix it myself, using the guidance on the website above. I failed and therefore had a professional shop to fix it.

- I have a similar Pentax MG that had similar symptom. Namely. if left unused for longer than about 3 days the shutter would not fire on the first try, and consequently a frame of film would be wasted. I managed to fix that, by leaving the shutter cocked for about a week. Thereafter the problem has only re-emerged once. (As an aside, on that topic, of whether it is OK to leave the electronic shutter cocked, I was assured by the professional repair shop that it was, indeed, OK to do so.)

Saw this thread by chance. Hunted down my ME super with the same fault. Thanks for the info. Will give it a try.
