QuoteOriginally posted by Digitalis;3851837 I have heard stories of TSA agents demanding that an expensive Nikkor AF-S 200-400mm f/4G ED VR be dismantled by its owner at the airport, as the TSA agent suspected explosives we being stored in it [which wasn't the case:
.
How on earth would the poor owner achieve that without the correct tools?

Airport radiation detectors would probably not be sensitive enough to notice the lens, just don't take it into a nuclear power station.

Nice lens and Definitely not radioactive!

What you have is generally referred to as a K-series 55/1.8. It is a great lens, but never radioactive. I think most of the comments assumed you were talking about M42 screwmount Super Takumar or SMC Takumar 55/1.8...why, I am not sure! Many (most?) of those have thoriated glass.

Yeah, that's a K-mount lens, Lee, I have one of those myself, and it did nothing to me. Although my hair fell out and I coughed up my liver.
