The problem is likely due to the use of AA batteries. While I bought my K200D partly because it can use AAs, I subsequently found them to be a massive problem as even good rechargeables performed very poorly. These days if I take my K200D for a spin I only use lithium AAs - they're very expensive but last for ages and they're the only ones that actually do what they're supposed to and don't fail when you weren't expecting them to.

My experience with the K100d and K100d Super does not mirror this. Nor even the k-50 I used to own for that matter. I routinely use(d) 4 2200 ma/hr energizer nimh aa batteries without any problems. I have kept lithium aa batteries as a backup and agree they are excellent as well. I often convert lenses to screw drive and do so with the k100d using aa nimh batteries. No failed rom reads or writes to date.

I still have my K100D from new, it has never got on with the low voltage rechargables and only tolerates EnergizerUltimate Lithium's.
It has the 50 1.7F on it at the moment, worth a lot more than the body.

A bricked k110D it will be as it's far too costly to repair. Anyway a K10D body arrived today with battery grip, remote and 3 batteries £140 and postage and it looks brand new.I can use the 18-55mm lens off the bricked K110D, so it's not all bad. It's got the newest firmware so no worries there.

The K10D is a step up from the K110D, I sold mine to a friend 4 years ago and it's still going strong. It's the last model with a ccd sensorand the quality of the image is exceptional. Make sure you get an operating manual if it didn't already have one.

I must admit I have taken to the K10D like a duck to water and yes it came with a very readable manual. However much of it reminds me of my MZ-S, which is my go to film camera.

I find the MZS rather different from the digitals, but the Z1P (PZ1) to be similar because of the two control wheels.

I was very close to going with the Samsung version of the K10D instead of my first DSLR, the K200D. It's the same sensor but the K200D used AAs (which at the time I thought would be an advantage) and the K10D has a bad reputation for front/back focus and had no or insufficient AF fine-tuning to fix it. I believe some had banding issues at high ISO, while the K200D doesn't, not sure why as it's the same sensor.

Still, it ought to be a good camera as long as it focuses accurately.

I sold it for spares on eBay, lesson learnt but not a problem as the 18-55 lens has been useful.
