I can deduce from the unfinished post when I open the thread, I never finished my post.
With small fast moving birds, the 1.7 is often too much work with the prefocus. I prefer the 1.4. But the 1.7x is great for extending your range. I do prefer it on a 2.8 lens. Also if you're working in an area near a feeder and can preselect a spot where the birds will land, the 1.7x acts as a focus limiter and is extremely quick locking focus. I use them both extensively, depending on the type of image I'm after that day. I don't use either much with the 60-250, just because you lose so much range to focus breathing, on the 60-250, I prefer the DA*200 2.8.

People say a TC doesn't improve your image, I strongly disagree. It might be true with a bad lens, I have shown that it makes no difference at all to my Vivitar M135 ƒ2.8, it just makes a bad image bigger, but on my DA* and Tamron SP glass, I doubt people can tell the difference, as to whether a TC is used or not.
