Tamron 70-200 not focusing

I have a Pentax k100d right now. I recently bought the tamron 70-200mm f2.8 lens, and it will not autofocus. It will start to, and try a few times, then just give up. I'm not sure what's going on. I've heard of people having issues with autofocus with this lens and the k01, but I have a different camera. The manual mode works fine, but I'll be using this for sports photography. I'm a sever beginner but I've tried a few things and nothing seems to get it to work. I spend my savings on this lens so I'm a little down it won't autofocus. It won't even focus on still objects let alone moving ones. Is it a Pentax thing? Should I send the lens back?

i have had the same lens for quite awhile and have had no trouble with it. i have used it on the K3 and the K1 without any problems. and it focuses really fast on the K1. i think you have a defective lens, if it was me id send it back ASAP.

Did you turn on the lens autofocus?

I have turned on the lens and camera autofocus. It works great with manual mode but is useless in autofocus.

Sorry. Missed camera id in op. Disregard please.

This lens has a problem with Live View. If you are trying to focus in live view it will hunt for awhile and stop. You did not indicate what camera or mode you are using.

Make sure that the focus ring on the front of the lens is pushed forward for AF and is not pulled back towards the camera for Manual.
