Lens choice for K-r

Hi,

My first post here, and possibly a daft question but all the same...

I have a rather underused K-r with kit lenses of 18-55 and 50-200 which I've dusted off more recently and started using at some offroad motorcycle events here in the UK.

Results are mixed (as I would expect, and will no doubt be largely down to my position on the learning curve at the moment !).

However, I have been considering going for a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 as an upgrade to improve my chances of getting clearer, less grainy shots (as much of my shots are in woods etc).

So, my question is... would I be 'over-lensing' the camera I have and therefore false economy? Or would the Tamron be a good choice (and then later upgrade the body)
Keen to get opinions on whether I'm putting priorities in the right area really.

Thanks

not sure on the lens suggestion. answers will come i guess. But the kr is capable enough. You won't be overlensing it imo...

I have used the Tammy 70-200 for sports on all my cameras ranging from the K-x to the K-1.

The K-r sensor can produce very good images. So no, you would not be "over-lensing" it. Go for the 70-200 if you can

For outdoor sports in the UK's almost unpredictable and often inclement weather, an upgrade worth considering (probably at a comparable cost, and even better value if you could trade in) would be to look out for a good but used K-5II (or IIs) and a Pentax WR 50-200 lens, or even better a WR 55-300. Our weather then wouldn't matter. Among other improvements, the body has a faster burst rate, gives more reliable/consistent focusing, and is one of the best at higher ISO settings.

I used my K-r with a Sigma 70-200. I also found the K-r a good camera in low light, maybe not as good as my K5IIs but still very good. If you just dusted off your camera I would suggest a faster lens rather than a different camera , at least to start.
