Pentax 70-200 not fitting on tripod

Hi-
I have the Oben BE-126T ball head on the Oben CT-3481 tripod and I just purchased the Pentax 70-200 lens. The tripod mount attached to the lens does not fit my tripod. Is there a way I can resolve this?

Thank you!

-Kelly

Do you have an Arca-Swiss plate mounted to the tripod foot on your lens?

Edit: Usually you would need a long plate with either two screws to match the two holes on the tripod foot or a lip on one end to prevent twisting. Example: Acratech 2131 (4") or Acratech 2181 (3"). I am not familiar with your ballhead, but might suggest that a beefier unit might be preferred for a heavy lens/camera.

No, I don't. I just attached the plate and it works (I'm a little embarrassed that I could not figure that out myself). There are two holes on the tripod foot. Does it matter which one I screw the plate into (plate has one screw).

Thank you so much!

Which ever balances best. I would suggest a longer plate than the one that came with your ballhead. See my edit on the comment above.

I suspect, if someone started a thread 'My most embarrassing moments in Photography', it would generate so much traffic it would need two moderators !

For longer/heavier lenses, That is most any lens with a tripod attachment, you're better off with a gimbal head. Once properly balanced you can set it to any angle, without it trying to fall over. For longer lenses, even a cheap gimbal head will work better than a ball head.
