SD confusion

I just purchased 2 new 32GB Sandisk Extremes. I have the camera set to record on #1 until full, then #2. Twice now, nothing on #1, and I find the images on card 2. Both cards have been formatted in the camera, so what is going on?

Take out card 2 (leave card 1 in place) and turn on camera.

Switch off camera.

Place card 2 in camera. Job done.

If you turn on the camera with only one card installed, it takes that card as priority... ie will use it first.

There is no menu option to specify the slot, so the above procedure is the one to use.

Don't think there's a need to format the card. Just turning the camera back on with only a card in slot one works on mine.

Hi Carol,

Peter and Adam have covered what to do, but for future reference the main screen has an indicator arrow for the 'primary' card. Looking at the screen in the bottom left corner you will see the two cards are displayed along with the file format. The white arrow points to the 'primary' card whether that be in slot one or two. I check this when I've taken both cards out so I know whether I've set the camera up to record to slot 1 first which is my preference too.

Tas, thanks for that tip! I'm embarrassed that I have never noticed that before!

It's now showing #1 as the primary card.

I couldnt remember if something more needed to be done other than turning the camera on and off so I added that as a fallback.

This confused me too when I first got the K1

I'd be lying if I said I didn't go in circles a few times on this myself. Recently went through the fire drill of, "where are my photos?!?" After a few minutes of panic/confusion, I realized I must have turned on the camera after pulling the card out of slot one and it had gone to slot two, and sure enough, a card shuffle later, they were there...

Yes, it was a panic moment, wondering where my photos had gone. I even tried my new card reader, thinking that might be the problem!

One thing about it, I'll never forget this again!

What a great forum. Pleasing to know very talented people are very quick to offer good accurate information. Good to know about the cards as I'm moving up from the K20D (really like this camera) to a K3II by the start of summer.
