Calibration needed?

Hi, all

I just got the KP and the 200mm DA*. I was having trouble focusing using AF compared to manual focusing. I got the calibration triangle and here are the results. I set the lens to the widest aperture and ISO to 200. I set the triangle on a table and the camera about 6' away. Using spot focus, I focused on the center square. Can you tell from this photo if the lens needs to be calibrated? Thanks.

Amy

I think it looks fine. There might be some very slight back focus, but you'd have to repeat the test a few times to ensure that the camera was correctly aligned and focused in the right place.

You probably know this already, but on Page 63 of the manual there are instructions on applying focus corrections for up to 20 lenses.

Yes.. It is only slightly back focusing. Very slightly. Probably 1 tick on the AF adjustment if any at all.

I had mistakenly used Live View to do my first shots with the calibration triangle. When I use the OVF, there appears to be quite a bit of front focus. Anybody else agree with this?

Yes, you have a bit of a front focus. Easily corrected

And here it is with +1 adjustment. I think that did the trick, yes?

Thanks. I think so. Now if the weather would just improve, I'd get out and shoot with it.

Will the k70 hold information for non pentax lenses. I've got a sigma lens but when I look at the exif data it doesn't know which lens but they pentax ones will register?

If I do some calibration on the camera with it remember old third party lenses or only pentax lenses?

I don't own a K-70, but as far as I know Pentax bodies will hold calibration for none Pentax lenses as long as a unique lens code can be read. The Sigma 17-50 will work.
