Custom image modes and digital filters?

Is there any place that explains custom image modes and digital filters a bit more in depth than the Pentax user manual?

Lately I've started shooting jpeg so want to take most out of Pentax in camera presets... Got tired of editing photos on my laptop, just want to enjoy the shooting experience

Trial and error is probably going to be your best bet. The presets are hardly scientific- just go with whatever looks best for a given scene, and then you can save that in one of your user modes. Tweak hue, saturation, and contrast as you see fit within each custom image preset.

One great way to do this is to import a single photo into the Pentax digital camera utility, and apply many different sets of presets until you get a result that you like. Much faster than doing it in camera. You can then manually copy those settings into the camera for future shots.

My one recommendation is to never turn up JPEG sharpness, because that actually blurs fine details. It might be best to turn it all the way down, actually.

Well... i can't use the pentax utility because i'm on linux. Anyway, having fun with muted+retro(or b&w) combo...
