Pentax K3ii

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and the camera world. I have noticed that recently when I shut the camera off, sometimes it will stay on for about 5-15 seconds. Now I'm not trying to shut it off after I take photos as I know it would be still buffering. I'm writing to both cards at this time. I wondering what you guys think it would be? The camera is only about 6 months old so I assume it would still be under warranty but hoping it's something easy or maybe a reprogram issue.

Thanks in advance
John

What brand/model of SD card are you using? My Sandisk Ultra card is noticeably slower than my Sandisk Extreme Pro. My guess is it's the speed of the cards more than anything else. Are they a match? Not sure if mismatched cards would increase write time, but would expect it to go to the speed of the slowest of the two cards, though I have not tested such a configuration.

Welcome to the forum. There are lots of things about cameras to be worried about. I would say this is NOT one of them. Anything electronic takes a bit to close itself down in an orderly manner when you turn the switch off. It might be the SD card as noted above or something else, perhaps the GPS. But regardless it is not going to hurt anything, your turned it off, let it take care of doing that properly.

Hi and welcome!
If I turn my K-3ii on and off, without taking any pictures, it takes about 3 seconds to shut down from viewing the top screen & GPS makes no difference as far as I can tell. Try it without a card in? and maybe fully charge the battery for a couple of cycles if brand new. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it anyway.

Is the orange card access light still on? Also, it's likely the SD cards- what are the speed ratings?

Thanks everyone! One SD card is a Sandisk Pixtor 80mb per second 64GB SDXC Class 10 and the second card is a Eye Fi Mobi card 8GB SDHC Class 10. Not currently using GPS and the orange light is not on when it stays on after the power is turned off.

If I had to guess, it is the Eye Fi card / Wifi system taking a bit to shut down.

Simple to test, just take that card out and see if behavior changes.

It might be worth calling them and asking them if it is normal, but the card slots can be active when the camera is off, so I'd think about the suggestion to see if it behaves differently without the wifi card in the slot. I know if the camera is completely off, and I insert an sd card the led lights up and flashes for a few seconds. So it may simply be a extended card shutdown or similar.
