I think the design principle behind that gap is intentional: if water accumulates there you can blow that water out if needed. The metal used for those screws does posses a fair degree of corrosion resistance. Having said that: Resist the temptation to over-tighten that screw as you can cause damage to the grip and the camera at the attachment point, and possibly damage the weather seals and cause exactly the kind of issues with internal water accumulation that you are so worried about.

Really? you're going to return a camera grip because there is a gap at the attachment point? I use a grip on one of my K-1 bodies and haven't had a single issue with it, the functional and ergonomic improvements a grip brings to the camera vastly outweigh any possible issues that could arise from such a small gap. Bear in mind the battery grips for the Canon 7D, 5D, 6D cameras and Nikon D90 and D750 series camera grips all have exactly the same attachment mechanism and have visible gaps between the grip and camera body. The only DSLR cameras that do not have any gaps at all are cameras with built in vertical grips like the Nikon D1~D5 and Canon 1D series. Pentax has never been in the habit of making cameras like those because they are inherently bulky, Pentax likes to keep their camera designs on the svelte side. Though it is nice that Pentax gives us the option for a vertical grip, they recognize that there are some who don't mind a bit of extra heft to their gear.
