Whatever model it is, it has an M42 adapter stuck in it.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Based on the photos, I believe it is an early-mid-1980s vintage K-mount camera, non-Pentax. The Pentax name nameplate has been glued on. I did a quick image search for the usual suspects and am fairly confident it is a Chinon CE-4 or similar house-branded camera made by Chinon (Revueflex?).

That is definitely a Chinon camera, CE3 or CE4.

Looks like the K-mount lens locking pin and release button are missing as well, so someone was only using it for M42 lenses. And yes, it very much looks like a Chinon CE-4 with an "Asahi Pentax" nameplate stuck on.

Like placing a Lincoln emblem on a beat up old Ford.

Don't be hatin' on my Lincoln Escort. That car got great gas mileage (probably weight-savings from all the parts than had fallen off.)

I have seen (in China) BMW stickers put on a Mazda MX-5/Miata, so stranger things have happened.

As soon as I saw that self timer and paid closer attention to the build quality, I wondered about a Chinon in Pentax clothing and headed off to Camerapedia - then I paged down here and saw that the mystery had been solved!

I toddled along to Camerapedia's article on the CE-4 and saw just how much it was possible to hang off that camera. It seems to have been Chinon's approach to a system camera - certainly the digital info back is a sight to behold!!!

Better than placing a Nikon or Canon emblem on it.
