Pentax k-s2 autofocus

Hi, i just bought a pentax-ks2 with a 18-50mm kit lens. i'm still new in using this camera. I found that my camera can't focus when in between 24-18mm using the kit lens neither in manual or auto mode but it performs well at any distance further than that. Is there any problem with my camera or am i doing the setting wrongly?

How far away are the objects you're trying to focus on?

I just found mine and had no problems focusing at either end near or far. It even tried to focus at 18mm about 4 inches away. Sounds like something is wrong. I think manual works with the camera switched to manual also but make sure that switch in on auto focus.

i tried it but it didn't work..is this problem related to the lens or the body of the camera?

If the lens will not achieve focus at all in the 18-24mm range then it has a fault and you need to return it.

Did you unlock the compressed lens? When I opened our KS2 the lens was in locked mode for shipping and looked like a prime but unlocked it will show a whole lot more black barrel.

Sorry I better clarify. I have/had 2 of these lenses both liked to jam unlocking and would partially jam after unlocking now and then. Does the lens freely zoom from 18-50 with no restriction/binding on either end on the lens scale. If it does not you must lock and unlock the lens (while off the camera) to reset it to focus. The IQ for this kit lens has been ok for a kit but keep the lens unlocked and free of any pressure applied to the front element. If you have any other a/f lens available try it to confirm if t is just the lens issue. Good luck.
