lens cap or shade 40 mm xs, lens shade for 100 mm or

does any one know of any sources for

a screw in ( or reliable squeeze ) lens cap for the SMC Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS, filter size 27 mm

or a lens shade for that lens possibly with a cap

I keep loosing the press on Pentax cap that is available for the lens

___________________

how about an external lens shade that can be used with the SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro

its internal shade moves as you focus and there are times that it doesn't extend at all

thanks for any help you can give

I lost my cap as well. Then I got a 27mm UV filter. It was okay, did not degrade image quality much, but it was flimsy. Over time, it started falling off. 27mm is camcorder size, so look for filters or hoods for camcorders.
I think one of the best options is to use two step up filters, or UV filter with step down filter. You will have to get creative, unfortunately. These filters can be pretty cheap, so you can even remove the glass and use only the ring

Im not sure I understand the problem with the DFA 100mm? The lens hood is on outer barrel, but the inside barrel extends a lot when you focus in macro range. But the inside of the lens never goes beyond the hood. I think DFA 100mm has good original hood, I wouldnt replace it

I just put a step up ring to convert it to 49mm. Since all DA Ltd are 49mm I can use the same pinch cap/filter on all of them.

my smc pentax-dfa 1:2.8 100 mm macro isn't the WR one

yes the internal section on mine extends outward as you focus closer

it looks like the external section, which does not move would accept a sun shade - hood

that is what I am trying to describe

I have nothing that attaches to the external section the lens was bought used from a forum member and I don't think he had any thing.

I didn't know it existed and I just placed an order through Adorama for one:

Pentax Pentax SMC 49MM Lens Hood for 35MM Pentax Lenses - Fits 85MM F2, 100MM f2.8, 105MM Lenses

thanks

that looks great, what sizes did you get or did you just get multiple 27 mm sizes?

I think I got a mix of 27mm and 49mm as I felt those were the ones most likely to go missing.

Speaking from experience here - If you are buying filters for the 40mm xs, don't buy silver ones. Stick to black. Silver makes it look like a nipple.

According to this link:
SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro Reviews - D FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

The DFA 100mm (non WR) takes "PH-RBB 49mm" lens hood, which is different from the DFA WR (takes PH-RBE 49mm). But I don't see any difference from the online images..
You can probably find the hood online, or even a knock off from something like JJC or Jin Finance or an ebay seller. The original lens hoods are usually pretty expensive, $50+

This is what I use for my 40mm XS lens, works perfect.

amazon.com : CowboyStudio 27mm DV-s DV Screw Mount Lens Hood with Cap for Digital Video Camera and Camcorder, Sun Shade : Camera & Photo?tag=pentaxforums-20&

And it gives an unusual look to the camera and lens, invites people to check what lens and camera it is and they get disappointed to find out it's a PENTAX!!

and for your 100mm lens, if it's 49mm thread, try one of these

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AE1QXFG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use it on the F 35-70 lens.

I ordered this for my D FA 100 mm macro ( not the WR one ) from Amazon Smile with free shipping ( delivered from Adorama )

Pentax
Pentax PH-RBB Lens Hood for Pentax SMCP-D FA 100mm f2.8 Macro Lens

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002YE668/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00...&ie=UTF8&psc=1

it arrived yesterday and fits without any problems

it is branded Pentax on one side and PH_RBB on the other

there in no pull out section so you cannot operate a cpl while using the hood extended

when the hood is reversed, it covers most of the lens so if you want to use the lens without the hood extended, you will have to take off the hood completely

the one recommended by suraswami is currently marked by Amazon as " not available " and is not a pentax branded hood
