Pentax SMC DA 50mm f/1.8 DA on a K3

Hello everyone,

I have a K3 and have just purchased a Pentax SMC DA 50mm f/1.8 DA to try. The camera software has been updated to the current version. I tried this lens in AF mode and it wont focus or do anything. I have tried it in live view mode, which was suggested by other articles, and it still does not work. Works great in all manual mode. Anyone have any suggestions to try or could it be a dead lens?

Thank you.

I'd try cleaning the electronic contacts for the camera body and the lens to see if that helps (probably a long shot but worth a try). Make sure you have the lens fully mounted. If you have another screw drive lens, try it to see if it is a camera issue. Make sure you haven't accidentally switched your camera's focus mode to manual. If no luck with all of these suggestions, I think you have a lens that was DOA and should be returned or replaced.

Have you checked the camera with other lens? If they work correctly, then you may want to gently clean the lens contacts and also make sure the lens is seated properly. give this a try before anything related to a camera reset. If the lens was a used purchase it might be cheaper to send it back for a refund since the DA 50 f1.8 is a relatively inexpensive lens new.

Hello. I tried all methods listed above with the reset being the last one. No luck at all. I attach the lens and input focal length still comes up. Guess its a bad lens. Thanks for everyone's help. Most appreciated. I will see what I need to do to return it.

Thanks to everyone again.

I would say the lens is defective. Make sure the camera is set on AF operation when you try it. Best to return the lens to exchange for another, since this lens has a good reputation for quality imaging.
