K-x Not Taking Pictures - Blank Live View

Recently dug up an old K-x. I'm unable to take pictures in the live view or viewfinder and the shutter doesn't go off. The live view shows the UI elements but the screen is black. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm using Eneloop batteries, a blank SD card, and have installed the latest firmware I can find (v1.03).

Have you turned on live view while the lens is removed? Is the mirror up or down? Can you see through the view finder?

When you try to take a photo through the view finder, does the mirror rise and fall?

Set the camera to Bulb (longest shutter speed available) mode and try to take a photo with the lens off. Do you see the mirror rise and fall, did the first shutter curtain open to reveal the sensor?

You could also try the sensor cleaning mode from the camera's menu settings to see if the shutter curtains open and close and whether the sensor is visible?

Regards

Chris

Eneloops deliver lower voltage than conventional AA batteries. Try a set of new conventional batteries.

I tried the suggestions made out by seventhdr and nothing moves at all no matter what I try.

I guess I can try a new set of batteries next.

Also, try gently bending the contacts in the battery compartment,
to help them make tighter contact with the batteries.

Both compartment and battery contacts should be clean,
to get the most voltage out of the batteries.

The K-x is still a great little camera,
but power supply was always its Achilles heel.

If the camera powers on and shows a green battery symbol, there shouldn't be a power problem.
This sounds like a shutter problem to me. Edit: s/o suggested above what I had in mind, never mind...
