Pentax 50mm F1.2 UV filter size

Hi! Just today I purchased my first film camera and it's Pentax k 1000. It comes with 50mm 1.2, I want to buy UV filter for it but don't know which size will fit. "Lenses reviews" for the lenses says "Filter Size
52 mm". But I saw on ebay some k1000 ships with 50mm 1.2 and 49 mm filters. I'm confused, please help me. Thanks.

Do you mean the rare 50mm F1.2 lens, or are you talking F2.0?

In most cases the filter size depends on the lens type (K, M or A, F/FA, etc.)

When you have identified the type you can find the information for your particular lens in our lens database.

Does it say "1:2" or "1:1.2" on the lens?

If it says "1:2", the filter size should be 49mm.

Ebay sellers are often confused by the difference, and label f2 lenses as f1.2 lenses.

Did it come with a lens cap ?
What is stamped on the back side of the cap is the cap/filter size.

The 50mm f/1.2 (aka 1:1.2) uses a 52mm filter size.
The 50mm f/2 (aka 1:2) uses a 49mm filter size.

The SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2 (as described in the catalogues of the time), also called SMC Pentax 1:1.2/50 (on the lens itself) has a 52mm filter thread

The SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/2 (as described in the catalogues of the time) also called SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm (on the lens itself) has a 49mm filter thread

Note the difference between 1.2 in the former case and just 2 in the latter. Or between 1:1.2 in the former case and 1:2 in the latter. It is a common source of confusion. Note also that the f/1.2 did not have "M in its name; that was because it was part of the lens collection that was launched with the K-series cameras, a few years before the M-Series. They are all interchangeable of course.

Another way to tell the difference is the price The f/1.2 lens is rare and expensive (I have never seen one come up on ebay). If you really have one it is worth a lot more than the K1000 itself, and the K1000 was never sold with that lens as a kit. The f/1.2 was an option with the then top-of-the-range K2 camera. The f/2 lens OTOH was the entry-level standard M series lens, and most K1000s were sold with one. It is highly likely that you have the latter.

The "K" series f1.2 is not particularly rare and they crop up on ebay quite regularly. I owned two at one point and sold one about a year ago. They do fetch over 10 times the price of a 1:2 though

Guys, I've not received camera yet, I've looked closely on the ebay photos and it's F1:2 i.e F2 not 1.2. So yeah it was labeled incorrectly. 49mm than. Thank all of you for your fast and very informative responses. I'm new in film cameras, hell I'm new in photography. I'm so glad that this helpful and friendly forum exists. Case closed and thanks again!

The "A" series f1.2 is rather common on eBay as well.

As others pointed out it can be a common sellers labelling mistake. Assuming you didn't pay $400 or so for the kit you have not lost out !!

Oh, and the Pentax 50 f2 (1:2) is a good lens too. Pentax never made a bad 50mm

Generally you will not find a K1000 bundled with a K50/1.2, maybe a K2DMD or LX, but not a K1000.

Phil.
