DA Motor

Hi I am using K50 for some time now. I have a peculiar problem. Sometimes when I click the picture the AF motor runs but does not click picture.
I will have to switch off for some time and then it works.
Can any one suggest the issue with it?
Best regards,
Jagadish

If your camera is set to focus priority and it's really dark you may not be locking focus. That's a setting that won't allow taking a picture if focus is not confirmed.

If you search through the menu it should be called AF.S Setting or something similar. (In the K-3 it's under the custom settings) Focus priority won't take the picture if focus lock isn't achieved. Shutter priority will take a picture regardless, even if it is blurry.

If you have some more information that might help us figure it out if that's another issue. Which items are you having the issue with? Do you have any other lenses and do they work when the DA lens doesn't? Are you using the original battery? (Some aftermarket batteries might have issues when the batteries get low.)

Are you finding the issue with any specific shooting scenario? (close / far, light / dark) Does it happen after using the camera for a while, or right when you turn it on?

Which lens?

It could be
a) Its too dark
b) The subject is too bland (no contrasts, colours, distinct shapes)
c) The subject is too near. Each lens has a minimum focus distance and if you try to focus on something too close, it won't lock

Finally, it could be something like lens needing AF calibration (many threads about this, and online posts, youtube videos for various brands) or something on the lens (like a fingerprint on the back element). Hopefully its not damage. Check the lens and camera mount for dirt or damage.

Oh, and update the camera firmware to the latest version. Sometimes this can fix hiccups

Edit: One more thing. In Menu you have Focus priority and Shutter priority options. Focus priority own't let you snap the shot until focus is locked. Shutter priority will take the shot when you fully press the shutter button, regardless of AF having been locked or not. Sometimes its a combination of the above three with Focus priority and AF.C. You can change some of these to see if it 'fixes' the issue

Another option could be an issue with the shutter button. It's a dual stage button, (half press = focus, full press = shutter) so if you have dirt in the button it might not be triggering the second stage (so AF but no picture). Have you noticed anything different about the feeling of your shutter button?

Also, when it happens again switch to manual focus and try to take a picture. If it works that will help rule out the button and a few other possible issues.
