K-3 II with HD PENTAX-DA 55-300 ED PLM WR RE

Hi,

Iīm a beginner user, so it can be a basic mistake...

Iīve a Pentax K-3 II and 3 lens: 1) SMC PENTAX-DA 40mm XS; 2) HD PENTAX-DA 18-50 mm DC WR RE; and 3) HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm ED PLM WR RE.

The first and second lens works well, but I canīt shot with HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm.

I canīt change focus with MF mode and nothing happens with AF mode (camera donīt focus and donīt shot).

I updated firmware to V1.10 and reset configurations, but it still not working...

Any idea?

Tks

RE means the lens is retractable; to extend it and shoot, you need to press a button on the lens body and turn.
I assume you have done that before trying to shoot?

Terry

I didn't have any problems with mine, but I've heard about few cases when there were some problems with new 55-300 PLM lenses - they were stuck or not functioning properly. Usually unmounting and re-attaching of the lens once or a couple of times rectifies those problems and they never come back. Sometimes a gentle knock or two was needed.

And make sure that the lens is fully open into working position in the first place.

I have a k3-II with 55-300 PLM; all works fine. If I do not retract the lens and I turn on camera it gives me an error message: "Shutter release disabled.........."
the "zoom ring" is further away from the camera- would be locked if not retracted. However, the focus ring moves, even if not retracted.

If the lens is not mounted properly; it will ask for focal length input.

Hope this helps

Double check the firmware update. That’s often the problem.

Check to see that the lens is properly mounted and fully extended. Without power, it can't even focus manually.

Also note that the AF is almost instant and pretty much inaudible. The best way to test it is to focus on something distant, then on something close, and check to see if both are in focus.

I'm sure it's not. That one was inoperable.

No stones, just an amusing connection.
Typos don't bother, but bad spelling does a bit. I reckon the most common example is 'loose' instead of 'lose', it's rife.

Hi folks,

First of all, thanks for advices!

I extend up to 300 before shot (several times)...

I updated firmware several times...

I unmounted and re-attached lens several times...

I gentle knocks a few times ($400...) but still not working...

And I tried others configurations. If I use P, Sv, Tv, Av, TAv, M, B or X + AF + set AF.S Setting to Release-priority it shots without focus.

Any other idea?

Tks

Clean the contacts on the lens and the camera?

Do you know someone else with a Pentax K-mount camera? They could test the lens - which would help determine whether it is working. If it is, the problem must be with the camera.

If you don't, either ask here whether there is a forum member in your part of Brazil, or take it to a service centre that has a Pentax body to test with.
